Which FSSAI License Does Your Business Need?
From 1 April 2026, the general turnover categories are:

Timelines depend on your category and state. Basic registration can be quick, while State and Central Licenses may take longer, particularly where an inspection is needed.
Renewals, Validity and Annual Returns After the 2026 Reforms
The 2026 amendment changed the renewal rules. Licenses and registrations granted or applied for from 1 April 2026 have perpetual validity. They stay valid unless suspended, cancelled or surrendered, so there is no periodic renewal. Perpetual validity does not remove your obligations. You must still:
- Pay the annual license or registration fee on time,
- File the annual return on FoSCoS if it applies to your kind of business (it mainly affects manufacturers and importers),
- Follow hygiene, labelling, record-keeping and display rules, and
- Update FoSCoS when your business details or turnover category change.
If your certificate was issued before 1 April 2026, check your FoSCoS account to see whether it was migrated or still shows an expiry date. We can help with that check.
