FSSAI Licence Renewal Online: Check Status & Get Expert Help

Last updated: 15 October 2026. Based on the FSSAI Amendment Regulations, 2026, notified on 10 March 2026, and FSSAI's FAQs dated 27 March 2026.
Short answer: No. Under the 2026 amendment, FSSAI licences and registrations are valid in perpetuity. They remain valid unless suspended, cancelled, or surrendered, and food businesses don’t need to renew them. You still have to pay the applicable fee and follow hygiene and safety rules. Check your status on FoSCoS.

FSSAI Renewal Rules 2026: What Changed from 1 April

Before April 2026, FSSAI licences and registrations were valid for 1 to 5 years and had to be renewed before expiry. Under the new rules, the system has changed.

  • Perpetual Validity: Your FSSAI licence or registration remains valid unless it is suspended, cancelled, or surrendered.
  • Basic Registration: For food businesses with an annual turnover of up to ₹1.5 crore.
  • State Licence: For food businesses with an annual turnover above ₹1.5 crore and up to ₹50 crore.
  • Central Licence: For food businesses with an annual turnover above ₹50 crore.
  • Same FSSAI Number: If your business moves to a different category, your existing FSSAI number will remain the same.

Who will get these benefits? The new turnover limits apply to businesses applying for a fresh licence or registration on or after 1 April 2026. Existing businesses will be moved to the correct category through FoSCoS without any fee or separate approval.

FSSAI Annual Fee and Compliance After Perpetual Validity

Perpetual validity removes renewal, not the fee. You pay the annual fee on FoSCoS. Under the FAQs, you may pay for multiple years at once, at any time of the year. You must keep following hygiene and safety requirements, and testing requirements for high-risk businesses such as dairy, meat, packaged drinking water, infant food and fishery products (FAQ Q4, Q15). If you paid a State Licence fee and now fall under Registration, that fee is adjusted against the registration fee (FAQ Q6).

FSSAI Renewal vs Modification: Which One Do You Need?

Renewal (extending validity) is no longer needed. Modification (changing details) still is. You need to modify your certificate if you change:

  • Business address or location
  • Owner, partners or authorised person
  • Food products you sell or make
  • Type of food business
