What Is Tatkal (Instant) FSSAI License and Registration?
Tatkal FSSAI License is a fast way to get an FSSAI licence or registration through the FoSCoS website. For some food businesses, the certificate can be issued after online checks of documents like Aadhaar, PAN and GST, without the usual detailed checking.
Two important things to know about Tatkal FSSAI License:
- Not for all businesses: Tatkal FSSAI License is available only for selected types of food businesses and products.
- Give correct details: The certificate is issued based on the information you provide. Giving false information can lead to a penalty of up to ₹10 lakh under Section 61 of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.

Food Products Not Covered Under Tatkal FSSAI License
Most milk and dairy products, meat and fish products are not covered under the Tatkal FSSAI License scheme. This scheme is mainly for selected food businesses. Only small snack or tea sellers and hawkers can sell loose, prepared food under this scheme, where allowed.
Who Cannot Apply for Tatkal FSSAI License?
You cannot apply for a Tatkal FSSAI License in these cases:
- Your business already has a valid FSSAI licence or registration for the same place.
- Your existing FSSAI licence or registration has been suspended.
- Your FSSAI licence or registration was cancelled within the last three months.
- Your business is not on the list of eligible businesses. Restaurants, cloud kitchens, food manufacturers and food processors generally need to follow the regular application process.
Documents Required for Tatkal FSSAI Registration
The documents required depend on your food business category and the type of application. You may need applicant identification, business details, address information and other documents prescribed for your particular Kind of Business (KoB).
