Keeping Your FSSAI License Up to Date
An FSSAI license is not a one-time formality — it needs to stay accurate (through modification) and active (through renewal) for the lifetime of your food business.
When to File a Modification
- Change in business name or ownership structure
- Change in business address
- Addition or removal of food product categories
- Change in kind of business activity
- Addition of a new director or partner
Log in to FoSCoS, go to "License/Registration Management," select "Modification," and upload supporting documents for your requested change. Note that significant changes — like address updates or new food categories — may trigger a fresh inspection.
When to Renew
Apply for renewal at least 30 days before expiry to avoid the ₹100/day late fee and any disruption to your operations. You can choose a fresh validity period of 1–5 years at the time of renewal.
Modification vs. Renewal — What is the Difference?
| Aspect | Modification | Renewal |
|---|---|---|
| Purpose | Update incorrect/changed details | Extend validity period |
| Trigger | Business change | Upcoming expiry |
| Inspection | Sometimes required | Usually not required |
If you are unsure whether your situation calls for a modification, a renewal, or both, our team can review your existing certificate and guide you on the correct process.
